REVIEW (my first ever):

Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #1

First up, I haven’t followed USM much during its existence. In fact, I only recently became aware of the death of ultimate Peter Parker. I saw that there was a relaunch of USM, and figured, why not?

So, the art. I really enjoyed it. Artist David Marquez does a great job conveying emotion on the characters faces. His action scenes flow together well and I love his rendition of Miles as Spidey.

The writing – Brian Michael Bendis, from what I understand from the few issues I have read of his, is a slow burner when it comes to plot. While I enjoyed the personal aspects of what was happening between Miles and his girlfriend, I was left thinking ‘is anything going to happen soon?’ If not for the twist at the ending (which was very when hinted at during the issue – I assumed the hints were directed at Miles returning as Spidey, not what actually happened), I would have to say not a lot happened. We have the twin Spideys, Norman Osborn and Miles conumdrum.

Overall, I’d give the issue a 7 out of 10. Don’t go in hoping for a ton of action. It’s a solid start, hopefully building to something more.

Next up Amazing Spider-Man #1.1
